Cape Town – Zozibini Tunzi is Miss Universe 2019!

The woman, who made history as South Africa's first black Miss Universe, has posted her moving reaction on social media in which she reflects on making history.

The two previous winners from South Africa were Margaret Gardiner in 1978 and Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters in 2017.

Zozibini who hails from the Eastern Cape – and later moved to the Mother City - thanked her parents in a moving message just hours before taking the incredible title.

She said in her caption, posted on Monday morning: "Tonight a door was opened, and I could not be more grateful to have been the one to have walked through it. May every little girl who witnessed this moment forever believe in the power of her dreams and may they see their faces reflected in mine. I proudly state my name Zozibini Tunzi, Miss Universe 2019!"
