AKA chats Joburg Day, his year so far and new music

Johannesburg – Joburgers are all hyped up and ready to go for 947’s Huawei Joburg Day on 3 September.

The concert will see some of the biggest names in SA music take to the stage at Crocodile Creek Polo Estate. As a build-up to the day 947 invited AKA to perform live on air on Thursday to give listeners a taste of what’s to come.

Speaking to The Juice after his performance the rapper says he’s more than ready for his set.

"You know I performed at Joburg Day before so now I’m more aware of the size of the crowd, you know what type of crowd it is. We’ve been rehearsing for the last week on our show and we’re just gonna give people a classic show. Something they gonna be able to remember for a long, long time."

Thanks for having me @947 ???? See you at #HuaweiJoburgDay ??

Reflecting on his year so far, AKA says it’s all about growth for him. "I’ve had so many great highlights. You know just maturing and growing as an artist, you know taking the time out to work on my next album. I’m really enjoying doing that right now."

Although he wouldn’t say too much about his new album, the star says fans should be on the lookout for new music soon. "I just actually dropped a song with Patoranking today which is available on iTunes so people should look out for that. I’m also shooting a video for that today. For people to expect new music in the coming weeks."

Aside from releasing new music, the rapper has a busy few weeks ahead of him.

"I’ve been doing Supa Mega show, the one in Joburg, that was a highlight of the year for me. Supa Mega Cape Town is gonna be huge [and] Supa Mega show Bloem. I’m the headline act for Rocking the Daisies, I’m the headline act for Spring Fiesta. It’s just a lot of things going on."
