All about Destiny Mag’s cover man - Nelson Makamo

Cape Town – ICYMI Destiny Magazine has made art and young people two strong themes for their most recent issue.

This is appropriate because, in South Africa, June is known as Youth Month and on 16 June every year we celebrate Youth Day - commemorating the start of the Soweto Riots of 1976 and highlighting the importance of the youth of the country.

In keeping with this theme Nelson Makamo is on the cover of the publication’s men’s mag: Destiny Man for June 2016. If you’re not up on the latest happenings in the world of the visual arts then here’s the cover, where he is from and what he does.

3 fast facts to know about Nelson Makamo: 

1. He was born in the town of Modimolle in Limpopo.

2. His first solo exhibition took place in Johannesburg in 2005 at the Obert Contemporary Art Gallery, Melrose Arch.

3. His work has also been exhibited all over the world including: France, Italy, America, Netherlands and Scotland.
