Johannesburg - Actress and TV presenter Amanda du-Pont recently announced a shoe range with manufacturer Footwork.
She says, “Footwork approached me and I was delighted, as this is the first collaboration they have done. I think fashion is just a part of who you are, a way to express one’s creativity. In my case, I am just co-creating footwear that I would love to have and wear.”
She’s always wanted to go into fashion and would sketch as a child, but never imagined she would have her ideas mass produced. Du-Pont’s collection features strappy sandals for daywear to evening wear; shoes for the office, for lunch or in the cluurb.
She was very involved in the designing process, “The Footwork team has been incredible in bringing my vision to life. There are a lot of factors that come into play when designing. Can intricate designs be mass produced? I wanted to bring luxury taste at an affordable price range.”
Being hands-on in the design and production process came with some learning, including about the limitations of design in mass production, where one has to work with the factory to get desirable results. She says she is surprised by the support and excitement for her range.
“From my peers, colleagues and all women. Now is a great time to be alive, women are uplifting and supporting each other. It’s beautiful to see. I enjoyed writing personalised quotes for each shoe style for each woman to be motivated and empowered, and of course seeing my name on shoes I love!”
