Anthony Mackie withdraws from Comic Con Africa

Johannesburg – Another disappointment for Comic Con Africa fans as Marvel star Anthony Mackie withdraws from the festival.

Mackie is well known for playing the role of Falcon in the Marvel Universe. His other credits include roles in Oscar-winning films The Hurt Locker and Million Dollar Baby.

The announcement of his withdrawal was made on Thursday, with organisers of the event saying in a press statement: “Anthony Mackie has had to withdraw his participation from Comic Con Africa due to Hurricane Florence. Hurricane Florence, a category 4 hurricane, has been approaching the Southeast Coast of the United States of America and has resulted in over 1 million people being evacuated and thousands of flights delayed and cancelled. It is due to this that Anthony is unable to travel to South Africa for Comic Con Africa.”

Anthony is the third major act to withdraw from the festival, with Aquaman star Jason Momoa and Star Trek’s Ricky Worthy previously cancelling their attendance as well.

Comic Con Africa takes place from 14 to 16 September at the Kyalami Grand Prix and International Convention Centre. International stars expected to appear include The Big Bang Theory’s Kevin Sussman and American Gods star Demore Barnes.
