Arthur and CiCi break their silence

Cape Town – It was alleged at the beginning of June that kwaito star and producer Arthur Mafokate assaulted his girlfriend, singer CiCi.

The developing story sent shock waves through the industry because the pair were seemingly happy in the public eye.

They were seen together on the red carpet last year when CiCi clinched awards for Best RnB Album and Best Styled Artist at the Metro FM Awards with Arthur at her side and again this year at the Samas.

The allegations have been reported far and wide but now the two people at the centre the storm have broken their silence.

Arthur has given an interview to local magazine Drum and Cici has released a statement of social media.

In his interview with Drum, Arthur said that he was not an abuser but however added that there was an “incident” and said: “What hurts me is that an hour before the incident we were in love and hugging each other. The incident happened and my life changed..” The issue of Drum which includes this interview with Mafokate, will be on newsstands on Friday.

In her statement released on social media on Wednesday, CiCi said: “I refute claims that me and Mr Arthur Mafokate have kissed and made up. I also refute claims that I have dropped the assault charges against Arthur as reported in the media. As far as I know, the charges against Arthur are still pending and I have no intentions of dropping them.”
