Cape Town - Ayanda Ncwane has warned her followers about a person who is pretending to be her on social media.

She says if anyone comes to them selling or recruiting anything at all, they should know that it is not her but instead, an imposter.

According to the 34-year-old someone is using her name to "sell stuff" online.

"Please be aware and DO NOT fall into their traps. They have opened social media pages impersonating me. AKUMINA," she cautioned her fans through a post on her Instagram page.

She also went on to add her official social media handles so that her fans know which ones to follow.

Ayanda is not the first famous person to fall victim to identity theft. Just last month, former Muvhango star Sindi Dlathu was in a similar predicament.

There was a cosmetics company that used her name and image to promote their anti-aging products.

Upon learning about that, Sindi warned her fans and distanced herself from the company and its claims.

Songstress Zahara’s name was also used to sell muthi without her knowledge.

She also distanced herself from the claims. "As a Christian woman I would never be associated with a muthi shop or anything to do with muthi‚" she told TshisaLive.

Former Generations star Sophie Lichaba and her husband Max were also victims when they learnt that someone has created social media accounts that claimed they invested about R2, 5million in crypto currency Bitcoin.

Sophie warned that anyone who invests is doing so on their own accord as they have nothing to do with the crypto currency.
