Johannesburg – Speaking to Gareth Cliff, former Miss South Africa Basetsana Kumalo opened up about the pain that she battled when she suffered a miscarriage in 2007.
The businesswoman, who touches on this and many other personal struggles in her memoir, remembered losing her twins when she was 20 weeks pregnant, as well as the public scrutiny that came along with the tragedy.
"It was just beyond painful to battle your fertility journey in public," she told Gareth.
Bassie says always wanted to be a mother, and after suffering the miscarriage, had to find it within herself not to lose sight of that dream.
"I had to find it within me to first of all, not lose hope and faith that I will be a mother of many. It's something that has always been in my consciousness and in my being. I knew that I was going to be a mother, I've always wanted to be a mother. And even when it did not look possible, I refused to give up. I refused to quit. I refused to believe that it is not for me."
She added: "Thank God, I've got three beautiful kids today, who are just remarkable."
The star also praised her husband, Romeo Kumalo, for supporting her throughout the ordeal.
"I don't know what I would do without that incredible man, who just said, 'if that's what you want, I did not marry you because you should produce for me, I married you cause I just wanted to spend the rest of my life with you. If we have children, great. If not, that's also fine'."
