Black Coffee on working with David Guetta, hanging with Diddy and almost working with Jay-Z

Johannesburg – Chatting with DJ Fresh on the Fresh Breakfast, SA muso Black Coffee opened up about working with David Guetta, hanging with Diddy and that missed opportunity with Jay-Z.

It’s no secret that Black Coffee has been living an amazing life – travelling the world, hanging with Hollywood’s elite, and of course making music with some of the best in the industry. In fact, the star is still buzzing from working with international star David Guetta on their new track Drive.

“But how dope is that? Black Coffee and David Guetta. It’s so dope,” Black Coffee gushed, explaining that he planned on working with David for a while and they eventually found the time when they were both in LA recently.

But David Guetta is not the only famous face that Black Coffee is associated with, the muso has quite a good relationship with Diddy as well.

He counts being invited to Diddy’s house for a meeting as a standout moment. “One of the things that really touched me is he invited me to his house, we were having a meeting about his album and he had a chef for the meeting I think from Egypt. He’s like, I got us a chef to cook for us.”

During the interview Fresh also took the time to recap on a conversation he had with Black Coffee in 2017 where the muso mentioned that he had the opportunity to work with Jay-Z but wasn't ready at the time. In case you’re wondering about that collab, Black Coffee says there’s been “no progess” there, adding that he’s not ready for that kind of “greatness” yet.

“I love my work and I respect my work and I think one of the principles I have about my entire life and about doing things, I love fighting battles I can win. It just saves a lot of time, and a lot of money, and a lot of heartache. If I don’t feel confident about anything I don’t even bother making time for it. The enquiry came through Swizz Beatz and we had to do something, and he wanted me to send something but I wasn’t ready. I’m not ready for that kind of greatness yet. I’ll get there,” he explains.
