Bonang’s special night

Johannesburg - It was a special night for TV darling Bonang Matheba on Thursday as family members and close friends, including rapper boyfriend AKA, shared “a dream come true” with her.

Matheba was revealed as the Africa brand ambassador for Brazilian sandals Ipanema.

Ipanema is named after the Ipanema neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, known for its sandy beaches and trend-setting lifestyle.

The big announcement was made at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sandton.

While guests waited for the woman of the moment to arrive, they were served drinks of their choice while music played in the background.

When she arrived, Matheba, dressed in a long black see-through dress, with a pair of bronze Ipanema sandals, shared a warm hug with her dad, Gampi.

“Today is a dream come true, particularly for my family [her parents, brother, aunts and uncles were there], who came to support me. I’ve been waiting for this day for a long time,” she said.

She said that she had been working on this project for months and that it hadn’t been a walk in the park, but was in fact a huge responsibility.

“I’m incredibly honoured to be a part of a brand that I love. Taking over from Brazilian model Gisele Bündchen [the brand’s international ambassador] as the ambassador for Africa is a huge deal for the continent.”

After the brief announcement, Matheba and two professional dancers showed the guests how to do the Samba Rio. Guests were also spoilt with a pair of Ipanema sandals each.
