CapeTalk appoints Refilwe Moloto as new breakfast host

Johannesburg – Cape Town talk radio station CapeTalk helped make history when it announced business analyst and media maven Refilwe Moloto as its new breakfast show host.

The move is a big deal because it means Refilwe will be the first black woman on the African continent to host a commercial talk radio breakfast slot on her own.

Refilwe takes over the show from presenter Kieno Kammies who "moves to a new daytime slot while he pursues his studies and other business interests," a press statement revealed.

The station says the changes will form part of a "larger brand refresh", which will include new imaging "as well as an integrated marketing campaign".

Speaking on changes, CapeTalk station manager said: "We are incredibly proud to be making talk radio waves by providing a platform for a talented, highly accomplished and intelligent woman to set the agenda. In fact, Refilwe joins a small club globally in this regard."

Refilwe is extremely excited about the move as well.

"It's a thrill to be taking on the morning drive, and the momentousness of this African milestone is not lost on me. It was an honour to build a truly special show from scratch, along with our 'Upfront with Refilwe Moloto' listeners, and I'm excited to continue those informative, challenging and insightful discussions, with all the news and views you need to kickstart your day," she said.

CapeTalk isn't the only local station to make dramatic changes to it's line-up. In recent months, 947 welcomed DJ Fresh as their new drive host after his contracted with Metro FM had been terminated

Metro, in turn, replaced Fresh with Mo Flava on the breakfast show, getting DJ Naves and SPHectacula to host their afternoon slot.

CapeTalk's new daytime line-up takes effect from 2 September 2019:
