Johannesburg - Caiphus Song, rapper AKA’s sweet love song, finally has an accompanying music video. And I say finally because I’m so used to these youngsters releasing both song and music video on the same day.
Anyway... This has to be one of my favourite AKA songs. It’s catchy, has total earworm potential with the first listen and was done in honour of legendary composer and musician Caiphus Semenya. The song is perfect for weddings, with some nostalgia mixed in between – and yes, they did the step in the video, so it’s officially a certified wedding day jam.
I’d say the best part of the video is those two odd people in the mix trying so damn hard to do the step.
Take a look at the video here:
The best way to describe the video is that it’s cute. And that’s about it. There’s a bit of humour and a sweet portrayal of love between actors Jessica Nkosi and Warren Masemola, but the video is slightly drowned out by the strong track. If the intention was just to have a video for the sake of having one, then mission accomplished. Everyone loves weddings, so I was expecting a little more. Maybe we should’ve had fewer shots of AKA and more of the happy couple on their special day. Just not enough warm and fuzzy feelings.
