Cruz & AKA

Johannesburg - Putting paid to rumours that swirled over the past few weeks, rapper AKA signed a new collaboration and multimillion-rand endorsement deal with Cruz Vodka in an official ceremony on Thursday night at the five-star Maslow hotel in Sandton.

The deal, said to be one of the biggest endorsements in the country, will involve TV, print and outdoor media campaigns, as well as events featuring AKA – whose real name is Kiernan Forbes – as the face of the vodka.

David de Mardt, managing director of Cruz Vodka Africa, said:

“This is a perfect fit as Cruz Vodka and AKA are international and aspirational luxury brands whose foundations lie in fashion, art and music.

"We feel privileged to have AKA – South Africa’s number one musician and the only South African musician to be featured on the front cover of GQ magazine – as a partner.

“We look forward to exciting future collaborations.”

As is standard procedure at Cruz events, guests were treated to premium Cruz Vintage Black cocktails.

Equally impressive was the guest list, comprising thespians, musicians and influencers.

These included AKA’s girlfriend, radio personality Bonang Matheba, who sparkled in a silver cocktail dress, as well as fellow rappers Da L.E.S, JR, Ma-E and Nomuzi Mabena, hip-hop artist L-Tido, Afro-soul singer Donald and publicist Melanie “Hypress” Ramjee.
