Department of Arts and Culture pays tribute to Thami: 'He had captured many with his unique voice'

Johannesburg – Tributes have poured in for former Idols SA contestant Thami Shobede after news of his death broke.  

According to DRUM, the 31-year-old singer, who took part in the 12th season of the singing competition, died on Thursday morning at Kalafong Hospital following a long illness.  

Paying tribute to Thami, the Department of Arts and Culture tweeted: "The entertainment industry has lost yet another incredibly talented musician after the untimely passing of Idols Top 2 Finalist, Thami Shobede. At only 31 years, he had captured many with his unique voice. We send our deepest sympathies to his loved ones." 

Sharing a message on their official Twitter page, Idols SA wrote: "As @MzansiMagic & #IdolsSA, we are saddened by the passing of our former Idols SA contestant, @ThamiShobede, a very talented musician with lots still to offer to the music industry. Our deepest condolences to his family & friends. He will be greatly missed."
