Disney Africa distances itself from rip-off Winter Wonderland event in Polokwane

Cape Town - A magical children's event advertised as "Winter in Disneyland Polokwane" left families disappointed after parents coughed up R250 for an underwhelming event on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter one event-goer wrote: "So today I paid for Winter in Disney Polokwane event which is sold out only to arrive here and get jumping castles and hula hoops."

Event-goers commented on the lack of decorations, as well as unfortunate costumes and inappropriate music.

Instead of dancing to classic Disney songs, a bogus Mickey Mouse, Tigger and Winnie the Pooh danced to house music.

Rather than the winter wonderland advertised, families were subject to the sweltering heat, with no shade or seated areas offered.

Parents took to social media to blast the underwhelming "picnic-style" event, which offered only one food stall and alcohol tent.

Many voiced their concerns that organisers were not present to address issues on the day.

Tickets for the children's event were sold on TicketPro, ranging from R50 to R250 for a family package.

Speaking to Channel24, Disney Africa said: "Disney Africa confirms that this event was neither run or sanctioned by The Walt Disney Company Africa. We are currently investigating."

Flying Fish also distanced itself from the event, tweeting: "Flying Fish is not a sponsor of the event. The use of the brand's logo on event posters is being investigated, so that appropriate corrective action is taken. Flying Fish only provided collateral for a beverage garden on site."

TicketPro did not respond to Channel24's request for comment on the vetting process for organiser who used their services as an electronic ticketing provider.

The event listing has been removed from the website.

A video showing the organisers unwilling to address guests have been shared on Twitter:
