Cape Town - Acclaimed artist, Dr Esther Mahlangu topped the trends list on Twitter on Wednesday evening after becoming the first South African to have her artwork displayed on a customised Rolls Royce Phantom.
Taking to her Instagram page a week ago, the 84-year-old teased that she would be unveiling the 'Mahlangu' Rolls Royce Phantom at the Melrose Gallery at One&Only Cape Town in February.
"In February I will unveil the 'Mahlangu' Rolls-Royce Phantom at The Melrose Gallery at One&Only Cape Town. I created a painting that was commissioned for the 'Gallery' inside a new Phantom. The car will be on display from 13 to 16 Feb 2020. Photo's will follow after the unveil," she wrote.
And keeping to her word, Dr Mahlangu posted a picture of the customised whip on Thursday morning, which according to cars.com, retails from $450000 (+-R7 million at current exchange rate).
"DR MAHLANGU UNVEILS THE 'MAHLANGU' ROLLS-ROYCE PHANTOM," she captioned a picture of the car.
And South Africans couldn't be prouder.
