Durban goes glam for charity bash

More than 500 guests attended the Sibaya Community Trust gala dinner, held at Sun Park in Durban’s Sibaya Casino, on Friday.

Trustees of social philanthropy group the Sibaya Community Trust – namely Vivian Reddy, Judge Vuka Tshabalala and its chairperson, Tristan Kaatze – hosted the event to celebrate R150 million raised by the trust for 80 welfare organisations in KwaZulu-Natal.

The dinner was attended by beneficiaries of the charity, as well as by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini; provincial social development MEC Weziwe Thusi; Noma Gigaba, wife of Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba; and Miss SA Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters.

King Zwelithini gave the keynote address and told guests he was proud of the work that Reddy had done within KwaZulu-Natal communities.

The MC for the night was actress, storyteller and poet Gcina Mhlophe, who was dressed in a fetching traditional outfit.

Ever the entertainer, she kept the audience in stitches all night.

Mhlophe told City Press how much she enjoyed MCing, adding that 90% of her income was derived from corporate gigs.

“I love MCing because you get to interact with the crowd,” she said.
