Everything that happened on DJ Fresh's first day at 947

Johannesburg – August has finally come around, and with that, DJ Fresh's first day at radio station 947.

The host previously worked at Metro FM but had his contract terminated after sharing "an unfortunate choice of words" words on-air, which allegedly resulted in the broadcaster landing in hot water with the Complaints Commission.

After a few weeks off air, Fresh was announced as the new Afternoon Drive host on 947.

Here's what happened on his first day:

Audience excitement

Many of DJ Fresh's fans were extremely excited to hear about his move to 947. The presenter had all of Twitter talking ahead of his debut show, and even had fans at the station to watch it all go down.

In a video shared on the 947 Facebook page, Mantsoe Pout points out that there is a live audience gathered outside the studio – something which she says she had never seen in her three years at the station.

Surprise!

In an interview with Channel24, DJ Fresh mentioned that Bonang Matheba is one of his biggest fans. Well, Bonang proved that point once again when she surprised him live on air with a bottle of House of BNG in hand.

The surprise visit brought Fresh to tears. "I love this woman," he told everyone, with Bonang adding: "I'm so happy for you."

New team

With his new show, Fresh also introduced listeners to his brand-new drive time team. This included former 947 night time host Manstoe Pout.

"I've been a fan since you were doing breakfast with Ankletap at Y(FM). I was like, 'listen to that voice'," Fresh admitted to Mantsoe.

Another addition to the show is actor/TV presenter Shannon Leibach who, before this, has never had a radio show.

Shannon and Fresh do, however, have some history. The actor tried out for SABC 3's Presenter Search on 3 before, and as Fresh put it: "I eliminated him."

First guest

As promised, the rest of the show was filled with laughs. Even more so when comedian Nina Hastie, Fresh's first official guest, stopped by to play a few games and chat about what she's been up to.
