Everything you missed from Bonang's first-ever interview on Real Talk

Cape Town - Local TV personality Bonang Matheba made her Real Talk debut on SABC 3 on Monday.

During the hour-long interview with new host Azania Mosaka, Bonang was questioned about rumoured beef, her ideal man, past relationships and her feelings toward DJ Zinhle.

Radio DJ Azania Mosaka was announced as the new host of the celebrity talk-show on Wednesday, following Anele Mdoda's resignation in May

SHE WANTED TO BE A TEACHER

Azania kicked off the interview with several softball questions. Asking Bonang about her career choice, and her dreams when she was younger.

Bonang revealed that when she was younger she wanted to be a teacher. Specifically, a grade 2 English teacher.

The TV personality is surrounded by teachers in her family, including her father, who is a professor. "It's in my DNA. I have great respect for teachers," she said.

'I AM LIVING MY PURPOSE'

When asked about finding her purpose in life, Bonang said: "I am living my purpose." She said that she hopes to inspire people through her work, actions, and bravery.

"I am brave enough to make mistakes in front of the world,"  she said. And the courage to pick herself up again.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Bonang spoke about the importance of social media, saying: "It's slowly becoming as important as traditional media. I get the same hits and interaction as I would from traditional media."

She has thought about educating other celebrities and influencers on online reputation management. Keep an eye out!

"I respect it," she said, adding: "It's very important. You can lose your job over it, or lose respect."

BEEF

This was when the questions started to get a bit more personal. Bonang was asked about her rumoured beef with Pearl Thusi.

Talking about rumoured feuds, she said that she tries not to get involved.

"I don't waste my time on things that are not beneficial," she said.

'MY PRIVATE PARTS, MY BUSINESS'

The TV personality also opened up about being publicly "shamed" for having several boyfriends. To that she responded: "My private parts. My business."

She said: "Because they can't attack my talent, my style or my face. They go for my private parts. I think it's getting old."

"Everyone knows how many boyfriends I've had. I am 30. It's my choice. I'm tired, I'm 30. I've had enough."

She believes that it's experiences like these that has made her stronger, more confident and a bit more vocal.

But it doesn't mean that trolls don't get to her.

She admits that she does break down. But says that she will share these emotional moments with friends, family, and people that will lift her up and not break her down.

RELATIONSHIPS

"I never regret anything. At that moment it was exactly what I wanted," she said when asked about previous relationships.

She added that how you react after a difficult situation - like a breakup - shows a lot about your character.

When she dates, she dates on her terms.

And her type? "Tall, dark and nice," she said.

Bonang said that she still gets pursued and that potential suitors will "find a way" to get in touch with her.

She has gotten gifts, diamonds, flowers and shoes from men who tried to court her.

LESSONS LEARNT

When asked about her feelings toward DJ Zinhle (who will be on the show on Tuesday) Bonang said that she would have done "a lot" of things differently.

Alluding that she is not the only person in the "situation" who needed to do so.

She ended off the line of questioning by saying that she has never publicly said anything about "anyone" and won't start doing so anytime soon either.

OTHER THINGS THAT HAPPENED

Azania also shared clips from Basetsana Kumalo and Khanyi Dhlomo, who spoke about what the admire most about Bonang.

The TV personality was visibly emotional and said that it is overwhelming to hear these things from women who she aspires to be like, and who she has admired for so long.

Students from the Bonang Matheba Bursary Fund were also brought on stage, thanking Bonang for the role she has played in their lives.

It's safe to say that there wasn't a dry eye in the studio - or in TV rooms at home!

Audiences can look forward to an hour of engaging television and stimulating conversation on Real Talk, weekdays between 18:00 and 19:00 on SABC 3.
