Johannesburg - The 2017 Buyel’Ekhaya Pan-African Music Festival in East London did not disappoint holiday-makers who braved the heavy rain to attend the popular music festival last Sunday.
Musicians gave fans a show to remember, despite the rain.
The line-up included Ringo, Zahara, Amanda Black, Berita, Ntando, Vusi Nova, Black Coffee, Lady Zamar, DJ Tira, Distruction Boyz and Zimbabwe’s internationally renowned legend, Oliver Mtukudzi.
The relentless downpour forced some fans to buy umbrellas or raincoats at the last minute to stay dry.
Others quickly made makeshift raincoats out of plastic bags from supermarket stores and some seemed content using cardboard or camp chairs to cover their heads.
Those who could not face the rain sold tickets on social-networking platforms and many fans took advantage of the cheap tickets.
Those who bought VIP tickets were the lucky ones and had covered shelter arranged at the stadium.

The music was preceded by the glitz and glamour of the second annual Buyel’Ekhaya Fashion Development Programme, which started on Friday night and continued on Saturday at the Orient Theatre under the curatorship of Eastern Cape-born fashion producer Andiswa Manxiwa.
Emerging designers from the Eastern Cape participated. Top designer Thula Sindi helped with skills development and mentorship for the programme.
Two emerging designers were chosen to work with Sindi after winning the best designs.
Designer Laduma Ngxokolo, who was celebrating his birthday on the day, showed his work, titled MaXhosa by Laduma, which included uniquely knitted garments, such as jerseys, socks and golf shirts.
He was followed by Mozambique designer Taibo Bacar, who had enthusiasts on their feet with his breathtaking dresses.
Sindi, one of the country’s most popular fashion designers, was applauded when his stylish designs hit the catwalk.
David Tlale – who did not attend the show – was represented on the catwalk, with models wearing his unique signature designs.
But it was undoubtedly Gert-Johan Coetzee who got the loudest cheers and his designs seemed to be the most popular – particularly with the women in the audience
