Fazlin Naidoo on getting the first Golden Buzzer on SA's Got Talent

Cape Town - We caught up with 12-year-old Durbanite, Fazlin Naidoo, the first contestant to receive a Golden Buzzer on the brand-new season of SA's Got Talent.

Each judge gets to use the golden buzzer once in the season for a special act that they really believe can make it to the top. This sends the contestants straight through to the live semi-final rounds.

SA's Got talent veteran judge, Shado Twala, was blown away by the teenagers amazing talent, telling her: "I'm gobsmacked at the gift you have. You're going to go far," before using her Golden Buzzer to fast-track the singer through the competition.

Contrary to what one might think, the Durbanite was not unnerved going into the competition: "I was ecstatic when I was chosen for the theatre auditions in Cape Town. However, I the nerves only hit when I walked on stage. I didn't know what to expect."

Fazlin says the judge she wanted to impress the most was Shado Twala, saying: "She has been on the show since the beginning and she's the only woman in the panel." But of course, she was hoping to blow away all three judges.

Speaking about receiving the first Golden Buzzer of the season, Fazlin says she was "emotional" and "thrilled." "It was unbelievable, I've seen that moment on TV so many times, and to actually live it was surreal."

Internationally the singer would love to one day work with the "Got Talent" creator, Simon Cowell, and her idol, Adele. Locally she admires and would be thrilled to collaborate with Shekhinah and Timo ODV.

Fazlin's inspiration comes from her favourite artists, Adele, Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson and Shawn Mendez. But says she doesn't want to "put herself in a box."

"There are also many incredibly talented people across the globe, when you hear their stories of determination and success, it inspires me to keep pushing towards my goals in life," she adds.

Her preparations from the semi-finals are already "arduously" underway: I'm taking care of my voice and drinking my lemon, honey and ginger voice soother. It takes a lot of preparation, but I am used to it."

When asked about how she will go about choosing her song for the semi-finals, Fazlin says:  I'm doing various songs and getting my family to give me their opinions. Choosing the right song is proving more difficult that I thought. I just have to find the right song and pull out all the stops."

See you at the semi-finals Fazlin!
