Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siboniso Gaxa has graduated from Wits University with a degree in political science and social studies.

Taking to social media to celebrate his special day, Gaxa – who is nicknamed Pa by fans – posted a picture of him in his graduation gown and his degree in hand.

The image was reposted by former teammate Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who praised the 34-year-old for pursuing his studies.

"A true example of there’s life before, during and afta football,” Yeye wrote on Instagram. “He inspired me to work hard on the field and keeps doing that off the field. He’s always been a hardworker and proud of this dude. Let’s live, learn and appreciate the good that are done by others. Danki Ricco."

Fellow professionals and some of his former clubs have also posted messages of congratulations for Gaxa, who is currently without a club:

In February, Gaxa spoke on SAFM about his studies.

"I started studying while I was still at SuperSport (United) where I did a sports management diploma," he told host Thabiso Mosia.

"When I joined Kaizer Chiefs I thought I should continue with my studies and I enrolled at Wits and I concluded that in 2018."

The former Bafana Bafana international is now aiming for his second degree at Wits as he is currently studying towards a law degree.

"Education is important – whether formal or informal," he said about why he pursued his studies further. "If you look at our industry (football), for the mere fact that we have challenges after retirement, it would be wise for me to pursue education further."
