Germiston Theatre to be named after late actor Dumi Masilela

Johannesburg – The Germiston Theatre in Gauteng is in the process of being renamed after late actor Dumi Masilela, Zola Hashatsi announced on Thursday.

Zola, who starred alongside Dumi on e.tv soapie Rhythm City, shared the news on his Instagram account, thanking Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina for making it possible.

“We have started a process of renaming the Germiston Theatre after our late Icon Dumi Masilela. We honour his artistic talent and we hope this gesture will go a long way in healing the family and the industry at large. We plan to open the State of the Art Theatre end of May 18,” he wrote.

Dumi Masilela was killed in an attempted hijacking in Tembisa in 2017. The star was 29 at the time.
