Jimmy Nevis chats about his new track and becoming an independent artist

Johannesburg – ICYMI Jimmy Nevis’ new track, Don’t Wanna Fight, is officially here.

Speaking to The Juice, Jimmy let us in on what the song means to him, what he is working on next and opens up about becoming an independent artist.

It’s no secret that Jimmy’s sound has evolved since he first dropped his popular track, Elephant Shoes, back in 2012. “I think when I was writing Elephant Shoes, musically, lyrically, that’s who I was. I was very happy-go-lucky back then, and as I’ve become more in tune with this industry and with my message, and who I am as a person, I find that my goal as an artist has changed. It’s not only just to make good music, but I think I want to deliver music with a message, and music that can also educate a lot of people,” the singer says.

And that’s exactly what he has done. He explains the meaning behind his new track: “Don’t Wanna Fight I think was a message that was on my heart for a while now. You can call it a coming of age story, but it’s really just about being your true self.”

Speaking about the music video for the song, Jimmy says it is something he is extremely proud of. “It is a work of art that really dives straight into especially the religious part of the track.”

The singer also mentioned that he is now officially an independent artist. “I don’t have a label right now, and I don’t plan on being attached to one right now,” he says.

But that does not mean he's putting his career on hold. Not only is the singer working on a brand new album, he plans on launching his own clothing line too. “I am releasing an album in June and it’s honestly sounding so good already. I’m also going to be launching a clothing line called, York Yard. That brand is going to be launched at the end of April. I’m really, really excited about it, it’s something that I’ve been working on for two years now.”
