Khaya Mthethwa says he knew in January that he did not want 'to be married anymore'

Johannesburg – In a short clip shared on Twitter, Idols SA season 8 winner Khaya Mthethwa spoke about his divorce from former Miss South Africa Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, saying that he told God in January that he did not "want to be married anymore."

"I didn't have quite a great year as I stand here today. I don't have some amazing story to tell you that this or that happened. Maybe I do, but it does not matter at this point in time. Why am I saying this? Because I had huge struggles in my marriage," he says in the video, addressing a congregation during a church service.

The gospel singer mentions that in January, he was already certain that he did not want to be married anymore.

"When I said to God, I don't think I want to be married anymore. I told God that in January. I'm like, 'I think I'm done'. It was an amazing, amazing experience," he says, adding that he was willing to deal with the consequences of the divorce.

The clip was filmed during a sermon at the Assemblies of God Church in Sandton this December. Khaya has not publically addressed the clip or his statements made in the video.

Khaya and Ntando tied the knot in December of 2017, and welcomed their first child together in February 2019

Ntando was the first to release a statement about the divorce on Tuesday. In a lengthy post, the beauty queen detailed the next steps for herself and Khaya as well as their baby boy.
