His song Ngiyazfela Ngawe has spent 30 weeks on the Itunes Hip-Hop Top 10. Kwesta is having a killer year! The hiphop artist known for his distinct gravelly voice scooped six gongs at the recent South African Music Awards (Samas) earlier this year. In April he also said “I do” to his long-time sweetheart Yolanda Mvelase.
After walking away with the Best Collaboration Album‚ Samro’s Highest Airplay of the Year‚ Sampra Highest Airplay of the Year‚ Best Rap Album‚ Best Male Artist of the Year and Best Album of the Year for his Dakar II album and hit single ’Ngud at the Samas, Kwesta is cementing his place as one of Mzansi’s most sought-after music stars. But the role he enjoys most is being a newlywed and loving father to
his baby girl Khai.
He spared a few minutes from his busy schedule to chat to DRUM recently.
What’s the strangest thing anyone has said about your voice?
I’ve had people say they would like me to call them every night to say goodnight. It’s rather awkward.
What’s the best thing about being a married man?
You never go hungry.
Who’s your dream collab?
If you weren’t a hip-hop star, what would you be?
A soccer player; I never really had other dreams.
What’s your favourite comfort food?
