Cape Town - Musician Lady Zamar has called out men who feel entitled to respect from her.

In a series of tweets, the singer expressed how upset she was after her ex-boyfriend asked about her whereabouts and proceeded to make comment about how men often tag women as "bitter" or "crazy" when they raise their voices.

The singer who dated musician Sjava didn’t say who this ex is.

"Some ex of mine asked me the other day where I was, I told him, then he says, oh so uyajola [you’re dating] there, I was so upset...(why must I be jolaring coz I’m not home?)" she tweeted.

"He responds and says.. You so violent.. I was beyond shocked and livid. So men think then can speak as they will, do as they will, play as they will but a woman standing up for herself, she is voilent, rude, DISRESPECTFUL, [sic]" she wrote.

Lady Zamar says the encounter made her feel so disrespected. This, she explained, made her realised how most men demand respect but lack it.

"Do men (the vast majority) really believe that a woman just randomly raises her voice for fun? Do men (vast majority) honestly believe women are in general CRAZY.. Society is constantly tagging women as bitter.. Do these men ever ask why? Why did she raise her voice?" she tweeted.

"I’m at a loss for words and thought.. is it really possible that a woman can’t be taken seriously when she gently says something important.. or she says it with a smile or with a soft coaxing voice.. Can women honestly only be taken seriously by men or heard only when they shout?"
