Cape Town - The daughter late Afrikaans singer Jacques de Coning, Joani, is recovering at home after breaking both elbows in a freak hiking accident.

Jacques, who was well known for his hits Girl Van Die Klein-Karoo, Kom Dans Met My and Boerereggae, died in a car accident in Port Elizabeth in June.

His son, Basil, died in 2014 in a car accident in Port Elizabeth.

Doctors told Joani she is "lucky to be alive," after falling 4 metres while walking along the Drakensberg hiking route, with her fiance Justin Fox, earlier this month.

According to an insert on Joani's Facebook page, she also shattered her knee cap.

Joani thanked everyone for "caring, washing, feeding and treating" her in the emotional Facebook post, in which she also shared photos of her injuries sustained.

On Monday, Joani wrote a dedication to her boyfriend, thanking him for the "white lie" he told in the emergency room two weeks prior, " [He said] that I only have little cracks in my bones. Psychologically this saved me from freaking out."

"I have been difficult, demanding, moaning, yet he took it through his own stress as well, and stood by my side. Justin James Fox, your encouragement and support is just so amazing, [sic]" she wrote.
