Cape Town - Thuli Madonsela, Thembi Seete and Nomzamo Mbatha share a few words in honour of Mandoza.
Thuli Madonsela
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mandoza. Your legacy remains part of our heritage. #RestInPeaceNkalakatha
Thembi Seete
You are everything a star is made of. From rags to riches, you made everyone believe they could change their lives. You united all South Africans on the dance floor and sports fields. Talented, elusive, ruggedly handsome with smiling eyes, larger than life, wild at heart, unforgettable, enigmatic, dangerous, outrageous, mesmerising on stage, not afraid to say sorry, unafraid to try something new. I had the fun and privilege of producing some of your music videos. Your sound will live on. Hamba kahle, Mandoza. #rip #hambakahle
Nomzamo Mbatha
More than anything, growing up in the township and knowing how big a star he was gave so much hope to the rest of us that we could make it out too. Because he really was a superstar. I was in primary school and my dad was a superfan. On weekends he and his friends would drink quarts and blast Mandoza on repeat – and the CD would get scratches. He created that feeling that he was the black person who could not be defeated. You can’t defeat a tornado. It made us feel indestructible too.
