Mandoza thanks SA for prayers and says 'the devil is a liar'

Cape Town - Kwaito kingpin Mandoza (real name Mduduzi Tshabalala) performed at the Thank You SABC music concert at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, Joburg, last night (Saturday).

The star, known for his hit song, Nkalakatha, performed for the first time after it had become public that his cancer had recurred.

During the event, Mandoza thanked fans for their support and prayers, he went on to say that "the devil is a liar."

This week, Mandoza’s wife, Mpho, told City Press that they were taking it one day at a time while her husband was being treated.

Asked how their children were coping, she said: “They seem to be fine with the grace of the Lord.”

Mpho told You magazine: “It was like history was repeating itself because it sounded very similar to the last time.”

Mandoza’s friend and producer Gabi le Roux broke the news on Facebook this week: “A great son of our Mzansi soil is in trouble. Mandoza ‘Nkalakatha’ is fighting for his life after having cancer treatment in 2015; it has unfortunately metastasised to his brain. Doctors and medical staff are trying whatever they can and we are not giving up hope for his recovery.”
