Miriam Makeba's granddaughter announced as Africa Day concert headline act

Johannesburg – It seems success runs in the vains of the Makeba family. Zenzi Lee, granddaughter of the late Miriam Makeba, has been announced as the headline act for the Africa Day concert taking place on Friday 27 May 2016.

Zenzi, who has sung backup for both Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela in the past, will be taking over the State Threatre in Pretoria alongside the Makeba Band for the celebration this year.

The singer told the Daily Sun’s, Sun Buzz, “My performance will be a collection of my grandmothers compositions, my own and also some of the composers she worked with, as well as those who have inspired me over the years.”

She also revealed that a number of the songs she will be performing are new, and will be released on her upcoming album

In the interview Zenzi paid tribute to the role her family has had in her success. “I’ve had the pleasure of being surrounded by great musicians who all played a huge role in the kind of musician I am. I come from a line of lyricists and just like my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother I take pride in my compositions.”

Africa Day takes place on the 25th of May, with the concert happening two days later.
