Johannesburg – On Thursday media gathered in Johannesburg for the all-important Miss SA top 16 announcement.
Joining guests on the day was TV personality Bonang Matheba who hosted the event.
Earlier in the week, the star was also announced as the official host for the Miss SA pageant, taking place on 9 August, with her MCC, House of BNG, being the official celebration partner.
With the announcement of the top 16 also come some changes to the competition which include members of the public being able to vote for their favourite contestant on the Miss South Africa website.
The 'People's Choice' will automatically win a spot in the Top 10 on pageant night.
Two more awards which will be given away by the Miss South Africa organisation will be the 'Mother of the Nation' award, recognising women who dedicate themselves to giving back to their communities, as well as the 'Young Activist' award, honouring future leaders of SA.
"We will love both the contestants and the public to nominate these people, and we will share our nominees and voting systems in time," Stephanie Weil explained on the day.
Something else that differs from the year before is that this time around the pageant will once again only have one winner. Whereas in 2018, the competition crowned a Miss World South Africa as well as a Miss Universe South Africa.
Miss South Africa 2019 will take place on Women's Day, 9 August, at the Sun Arena in Pretoria.
The show will be broadcast live on M-Net (DStv 101) as well as Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).
The winner will walk away with close to R3 million in prize money and sponsorship deals.
