Miss SA launches Unbreakable campaign with self-defence class

Johannesburg – Miss SA 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters kicked off her Unbreakable campaign in Mamelodi on Saturday where she was involved in a self-defense workshop.

The class took place at the Stanza Bopape Health and Community Development Centre. Nel-Peters worked on the initiative with karate expert Mark Grobbelaar who runs an organisation called Woman InPowerment (WIP) which educates women on how to react when faced with life-threatening situations.

Speaking about the campaign, Demi-Leigh explained in a press statement: “The Unbreakable campaign aims to educate, uplift and empower South Africa women. This they can start to do by taking care of themselves and making wise decisions.”

Demi says she was inspired to launch the campaign after the attempted hijacking she experienced earlier this year: “It was an awful experience but I knew how to handle the situation in the best possible way, because I had done WIP and MasterDrive workshops for women that focused on everything from hijacking and robberies and how to handle these situations, to how to get out of toxic and abusive relationships.”
