Johannesburg – With the 2018 Miss Universe pageant inching closer, preparations are underway for Tamaryn Green as she gets ready to hit the stage in hopes of walking away with the prestigious title.
Speaking to The Juice, Tamaryn let us in on what goes into getting ready for Miss Universe, saying that contestants have to be physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared.
“From gyming and keeping healthy, to practicing makeup and hair, working on my stage presence and keeping up with world news. There is a lot that goes into preparations,” she added.
CROWNING MOMENT
In May 2018 the medical student competed against 11 other finalists at Time Square's Sun Arena in Pretoria to win the coveted Miss South Africa crown.
The beauty queen was also chosen to represent the country at the Miss Universe pageant, with Thulisa Keyi being selected to compete on the Miss World stage.
While the contestants went through a rigorous training regimen for Miss SA, Tamaryn says when it comes to Miss Universe “it is a lot more intense and goal-directed.”

THAILAND, HERE WE COME
The 2018 Miss Universe pageant is set to take place in Bangkok, Thailand on 16 December. The announcement came in July, with organisers confirming that the three-hour event will be aired live on TV and will once again be hosted by the award-winning Steve Harvey.
Having had the opportunity to visit Thailand at the end of September, Tamaryn shared a few snaps from her time on the island, adding in one post that she “can’t wait to go back in December”.

BRINGING HOME THE CROWN
While all of the Miss Universe contestants may feel a bit of pressure on the big night, South Africans will be keeping a special eye on Tamaryn to see if she can achieve something that’s only occurred once in the pageant’s 67-year history – a back-to-back win.
The first, and only country so far, to win the Miss Universe title for two consecutive years was Venezuela.
Dayana Mendoza took home the Miss Universe crown in 2008, and in 2009 passed it down to fellow Venezuelan Stefanía Fernández.
With South African Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters holding the title of Miss Universe 2017, the country is hopeful that Tamaryn could bring the crown home once again.
Speaking about the lessons she has learned from Demi-Leigh, Tamaryn says the reigning queen taught her “to show lots and lots of personality when on stage.”
