Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi to catch up with Trevor Noah and strut her stuff at New York Fashion Week

Johannesburg – Miss South Africa Zozibini Tunzi will be heading to New York where she will take part in the city's Fashion Week.

Zozibini, who was crowned the winner of the 61st Miss SA pageant in August, will strut her stuff on the runway in African designs.

This includes pieces from Belgian-born Mozambican designer Eliana Morargy's 'Basking in the Osun River' collection, which pays homage to West Africa's Yorùbá women.

Zozibini will also be dressed in a unique Mpondoland inspired gown by designer Laduma Ngxokolo, whose style is steeped in the traditions of the Eastern Cape.

Not only will she get to enjoy New York Fashion Week, while in the Big Apple, Zozibini will also get the chance to hang with Daily Show host Trevor Noah and will be interviewed by US publication Essence.

The beauty queen was praised by many during her participation in the Miss SA pageant for embracing her natural hair – something which she says she did not realise would have "such far-reaching implications and consequences".

"It seems that I am becoming the international poster girl for natural African women. I did not set out to be, but I am extremely pleased if women are starting to realise that – if they choose to – they can give up on wigs and weaves and still be beautiful," she said in a statement to the press.
