Johannesburg - Mobile network MTN has released a statement following the death of kwaito star Vusi "Mavusana" Ngwenya.
Speaking to The Juice, PR specialist at MTN, Mthokozisi Ndlovu, confirmed that the musician performed at an MTN event in Port Elizabeth two days before his death.
Reports of Mavusana's death spread on Wednesday. The musician's partner Ann Msomi confirmed the tragic news to The Juice. He was 46.
According to the official statement, Mavusana had been working with the company for the last 16 years.
"MTN is saddened by the death of the South African music icon, Mavusana, who has been an integral part of our events for the past 16 years. He died two days after he performed at an MTN event in Port Elizabeth."
"On Tuesday morning, 18 December, his colleagues went to his hotel room to celebrate his 46th birthday, they unfortunately found that he had passed away. We would like to send our deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans who have supported his music career for the past years," said the statement.
The cause of death has not been made public.
