New Germiston Theatre officially renamed 'Dumi Masilela Theatre'

Johannesburg – Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina has fulfilled his promise of renaming the New Germiston Theatre to the "Dumi Masilela Theatre" in honour of late actor Dumi who was killed in a botched hijacking in 2017.

According to the tweet by the mayor, the announcement was initially made at Dumi's funeral in 2017.

In 2018 Zola Hashatsi, who starred alongside Dumi on Rhythm City, confirmed that the process of renaming the theatre was underway.

"We can't wait to meet the family of our late brother after we delivered to the commitment we made at @DumiMasilela1 funeral. The New Germiston Theatre will now have a new name. 10/12/19 is the historic date for the launched [sic]," Mayor Masina Tweeted.

The post also included a picture of a street sign with the words "Dumi Masilela Theatre" on it.
