Nina Hastie bravely shares story of sexual assault and drug addiction

Cape Town - Local comedian Nina Hastie opened up about her struggle with drug and alcohol addiction on Zaziwa.

The multi-talented TV personality had the country in tears when millions of viewers tuned in to watch her interview with Pearl Modiadie on Wednesday.

"I speak to women, and I want them to know that they are allowed to live. No matter what happened in their past. Look how making one decision changed my whole life," said Nina.

Known for making people laugh, many were unaware of the life challenges that Nina had overcome to become the much-loved media personality she is today.

Speaking to Pearl she shared her story of being raped three times, being an alcoholic, dependent on drugs and being ostracised by her family. 

Her motivational story resonated with millions of people across the country, which included meaningful moments and a spirit of bouncing back. 

Messages of support flooded social media, which encourages Nina to keep sharing her story.
