Cape Town - Veteran South African actor Paul Eilers, 74, died on Friday.
Speaking to Rapport, Paul's wife, Marina said that the Sonkring actor had reportedly died from a pulmonary embolism.
The beloved local star was best known for his roles in TV shows and films like Sonkring, Vyfster, Koöperasiestories, Paljas, Roepman, Stuur Groete Aan Mannetjies Roux, and most recently Dominee Tienie.
Film producer Piet de Jager confirmed the news of Paul's death to radio personality, Margot Luyt on Friday.
Marina told the Sunday newspaper that after she dished up supper at their home in Oudtshoorn, Paul suggested they watch TV, and when he sat down in his chair, his head flopped backwards.
Marina called Paul her "soulmate" and "shadow," describing their relationship as "once-in-a-lifetime."
The couple had been together for 27 years.
