Cape Town - Local shock jock Phat Joe has once again found himself at the centre of controversy after engaging in an on-air conversation about violence against men.
Radio 2000 released promotional artwork on social media on Wednesday for the discussion "men can be victims of abuse" which aired on Phat Joe and the Family.
Alongside his co-host Nonala Tose, Phat Joe and the Family airs weekdays from 6:00 to 9:00.
Twitter users slammed the post for being "ill-timed" amidst the Am I Next movement happening in South Africa, which saw thousands of demonstrators take to the streets to protest gender-based violence and femicide last week.
"Noted and numbers never lie. So let's address issues accordingly, prioritising our current situation," tweeted @sezy_ma.
Twitter user @yeslamGame agreed, saying: "The timing of this is terrible."
"This chat is inappropriate, while we're still dealing with the bigger issue of men being the perpetrators of abuse, women and children going missing," he added.
Even though the timing of the post was brought into question, with some labelling his on-air comments as "tone-deaf," others praised Phat Joe for shining light on violence against men.
Phat Joe is yet to address the backlash comments online.
A podcast or recording of the segment was not available online at the time of publishing.
