Cape Town - South Africa's first Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner celebrated her sixtieth birthday on Wednesday.
At 18 years old, Margaret Gardiner was the first South African to be crowned Miss Universe in 1978.
To celebrate the birthday milestone, Margaret shared a photo of herself wearing a black bikini, lounging on a couch.
"It's not about how you look, but how you move through life," she wrote.
She dedicated the post to people who have been called: "Too fat. Too thin. Too tall. Too short. Wrong color," saying: "To all those who don't fit, I celebrate you. I am one too."
Former Miss South Africas Rolene Strauss and Claudia Henkel wished Margaret a happy birthday in the comment section of the post.
Margaret was the only Miss Universe titleholder from South Africa until Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss Universe 2017.
In a previous interview with Channel24, the former beauty queen said that she still has her Miss Universe sash, and keeps it safely tucked away and not on display.
