Johannesburg – While many cosplayers at Comic Con Africa took a bit of time to decide which characters they would like to portray at this year's convention, for Calvin Nurse it was a no-brainer.
The 24-year-old University of Pretoria student had heads turning on Saturday when he showed up to the four-day festival dressed as Jon Snow from Game of Thrones.
But it was not just his costume that had guests begging for pics. Nope, that probably had something to do with the fact that Calvin bears quite the resemblance to the popular character.
Speaking to Channel24, Calvin says his friends first started pointing out the similarities between himself and Jon Snow when he began growing his hair two and a half years back, quickly following that up with a beard too.
"It just so happened that during this time, Jon Snow became very popular, and I started to resemble him. A small group of my varsity friends started calling me Jon Snow or 'King of the North'," he says.
Though according to Calvin, the reactions he received at Comic Con was unlike any he had ever gotten before.
"I believe that my hair and beard help me look similar. However, the costume enhances the look. I think that excites many fans. I honestly never thought it would generate so much attention, but it was so much fun!"
And in case you were wondering, Calvin is a "huge" GOT fan. "Not a massive fan of the final season, however, it is still a fantastic show that deserves praise," he adds.
