Cape Town - South Africa has established itself as a prime destination for international film productions, making Cape Town the perfect location for celebrity spotting.

Homeland, Black Sails, Scorpion KingTomb Raider and Black Mirror, were all filmed in The Mother City, giving celebrities the perfect opportunity to take in all the sights the city has to offer. 

From Hollywood royalty Sean Penn and Orlando Bloom, to the British royal family, Cape Town makes an ideal celebrity hunting ground.

1. Belmond Mount Nelson Hotel 

Katie Holmes, Charlize Theron, Sean Penn and Oprah are some of the famous faces, who call Mount Nelson home when in The Mother City.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the world-class hotel reminds American guests of the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles for its colour and gorgeous grounds. 

Ashworth Africa reported that Bill Clinton once wanted to stay at "The Nellie" when he was in Cape Town, but the staff weren't able to comply with the secret service's request to cut down the palm trees. 

2. Beluga

South African and Asian fusion restaurant Beluga is said to have attracted the attention of Samuel L Jackson and Kevin Spacey.

Prince Harry joined former girlfriend Chelsy Davy, for her 21st birthday celebration at Beluga in 2006, Hello Magazine reported. 

The Zimbabwean-born businesswoman reserved the restaurant's private cellar for the lavish party. 

3. Aquila Private Game Reserve

Paris Hilton and Benji Madden stayed in the honeymoon suite and visited the reserves cheetah sanctuary at Aquila Private Game Reserve, according to Cape Town Magazine

Rihanna, One Republic, Prince Harry and Katie Holmes have also enjoyed the wildlife while on safari at the park. 

4. V&A Waterfront

Charlize Theron, rapper T.I. and Miley Cyrus have been spotted doing a bit of shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat at the city's most popular shopping destination.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker was spotted at Recycled Flip Flop Sculptures, located in the Watershed at the V&A Waterfront. 

Shop owner, Davis Ndungu shared a snap of himself and Miley on the store's official Instagram using various hashtags in the caption.

According to 2oceansvibe, Usher reportedly spent R50 000 at the Puma shop when he was in the city in 2012.

5. Table Mountain

One of the New7Wonders of Nature, Table Mountain, has been visited by some of the world's most famous people, including Queen Elizabeth II, Oprah Winfrey, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Margaret Thatcher.

While shopping and safari are at the top of most holidaymakers' to-do list, many also get in some exercise. 

Most recently, Canadian actress Emily VanCamp managed to scale the city's iconic landmark

6. Café Paradiso 

Sean Penn and Homeland star, Claire Danes, have been seen having a meal at the popular local restaurant. 

Channel24 spoke to restaurant staff who revealed that Blake Lively, Chris Pine, Denzel Washington and Hilary Swank have indulged in the uniquely South African cuisine on the menu. 

Want to eat like a celebrity? We also learnt that Sean Penn enjoyed the sirloin while other celebs have ordered the beef fillet medallions and the bacon-wrapped kudu loin. 

7. Ellerman House

The luxury hotel and spa has treated celebrity guest like Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi, as well as Meryl Streep during their stay in Cape Town.

8. Cafe Caprice

Celebrities who have been spotted at Cafe Caprice include Zac Efron, who was allegedly spotted sucking on a Granadilla Lolly, Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Orlando Bloom

The Camps Bay strip is a popular among celebrities.

Model Jourdan Dunn has taken a dip in our cold waters, and David Hasselhoff was spotted joining a game of volleyball in a red swimsuit on Camps Bay beach. Jared Leto also hanged at the Bay Hotel during a trip to SA.

9. Mzoli's

Mzoli's Butchery is a popular township braai spot in Gugulethu that also offers live music.

Jamie Oliver, Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington and the cast of the TV series Black Sails have all been seen enjoying the local shisa nyama.
