Queen B Matheba and Somizi Mhlongo have smoked the peace pipe

Johannesburg - It seems as if TV darlings Bonang “Queen B” Matheba and Somizi Mhlongo have smoked the peace pipe – for now.

This was evident at this week’s media launch of the Mzansi Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards media lunch at Summer Place in Hyde Park.

Matheba, who was the MC, proved to be the queen that did not hold any grudges and lived up to her tweet: “Rise above. Return hate with love. Kill them with kindness, then bury them with success.”

Queen B gave a warm welcome to her former BFF during her welcome note and also encouraged Mhlongo’s fans to vote for him.

“Welcome! I see members of the media, celebrities, our friends and some familiar faces … hellooo Somgaga,” she said with a smile. To which Mhlongo responded: “Yes! Girl.”

Last week on Behind The Story on MTV Base hosted by Pearl Thusi, Mhlongo, who was a guest, did not hold back and called Matheba “mediocre” and “persona non grata”.

But this did not stop the former BFFs from being friendly to each other at Tuesday’s event.

Matheba, who is always dressed to the nines, opted for a simple look for the occasion and looked stunning in a long floral dress.

Having hosted last year’s event, Matheba returns again as a host. She is also nominated in the favourite personality of the year category alongside Mhlongo, actress and brand ambassador Nomzamo Mbatha, cricket star Kagiso Rabada, and musician and reality TV star Penny Penny. What a tough category!

Wine, gin and tonic, and Castle Milk Stout were the order of the day and French Champagne Moët was flowing while celebs jammed to good music and chilled next to the pool.

What was surprising, though, was that many nominees did not attend the launch.

One of the few nominees spotted was The Queen actress Thembsie Matu, who has been nominated in the favourite actress category alongside Rami Chuene, Linda Sebezo, Moshidi Motshegwa and Lesego Marakalla.

Other celebrities who graced the event included K Khoza, people’s #MCM Thabang Molaba, Kabelo Moalusi, Motsoaledi Setomo and Dineo Nchabeleng. The glitz and glam award ceremony takes place on 24 November.
