Veteran actor Joe Mafela dies

Cape Town - Veteran actor Joe Mafela has passed away, The Sunday SunENCAEWN and SABC news reported on Sunday morning. The actor was born in 1942.

According to Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane, Mafela died following a car accident. The accident happened before 22:00 on the M1 North in Johannesburg.

Speaking to The Juice, Mamonyane said: "On M1 between Oxford and Houghton Mr Mafela was involved in an accident. He was driving a Ford Figo when he bumped a bakkie on the left hand side and the bakkie went into a barricade. When the officers arrived on the scene Mr Mafela had passed on. When the paramedics got there, on first inspection, it appeared as though he didn't die of his injuries from the car accident but perhaps an attack of some sort. The damages on the vehicle are not that serious. The investigation is still ongoing."

Tributes have poured in on social media.
