SA cosplayer crowned world champion after taking home the gold at Comic Con Africa | Life

South African cosplayer Kelsey Atkins has scooped first place at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) – the "largest and most prestigious cosplay competition in the world", according to a press statement by Comic Con Africa.

Kelsey, known as "JinxKittie", was announced cosplay champion at Comic Con Africa 2019. As part of her prize, she was sent to Chicago to compete at C2E2 against cosplayers from all around the world.

"JinxKittie stood out in her intricate Priestess Bathory Cosplay. Over 600 hours of design, hand stitching, embroidering and 3D printing went into this incredible Cosplay, making JinxKittie the champion of the 2019 C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay (sic)," the statement reads.

Day 2 of Bathory updates! Yesterday was a focus on sewing details, today we look at her armor and staff weapon! I have repainted the armor to look more gritty and ancient, I entirely remade the black skirt and golden cage with the emblems in the archways, and the staff has also been repainted with much more care! I'm super proud of how it all looks together so far! ???????? Sharing her excitement on Instagram, Kelsey wrote: "I still can't believe it happened! Everything was such a rush and it has definitely not sunken in yet! It was such an honor to be here and part of this amazing convention and competition! There were some seriously talented and amazing people competing this year and I am so humbled and excited to have met them! (sic)"

Ya girl did it! I took home the crown at C2E2 Cosplay Championships! ?? I still cant believe it happened! Everything was such a rush and it has definitely not sunken in yet!
