Johannesburg - Jose Cuervo, who produces the world’s best tequila, hosted an epic shindig at the old Park Station, next to the Nelson Mandela Bridge, last weekend.
While Sunday was perhaps not the best day to party, all thoughts of Monday were forgotten after a few moments at this rave-inspired session.
The party was held underneath the structure of the platform, giving the event a post-apocalyptic look. Organisers laid out the décor in a manner that tied in with the heavy industrial feel of the building. Out-of-this-world tequila-infused cocktails flowed and the spectacular thunder storm that drenched the city that night added to the futuristic ambience of the party.
Fortunately, no one wearing a suit interrupted the festivities to deliver a light speech about Jose Cuervo’s brand objectives.
Instead, white lights were flashed all around the venue, signalling to the small but energetic crowd to head to the bar for a complimentary shot.
Needless to say, the party was a raucous affair.
You can imagine a whole evening of thumping music provided by the likes of DJ Lag, Skinny Macho, K-$, Uncle Partytime and international act Wiley from the UK. All of whom gave the crowd hard-hitting sets of gqom, grime, trap and electronica.
A few well-known faces were in the crowd, among them sneakerhead and camo wear connoisseur Mkay Frash, rapper Stilo Magolide, the always trendy DJ Doowap, model Elle van der Burg, Twiggy Moli, DJ Akio, dancer Taryn Alberts and Family Tree Records’ bigwig Bash Vision.
This party came out of left field. We were never ready for this and it was honestly one of the best events of the year. We can only hope the organisers are considering holding these events regularly.
