Sketchy Bongo is taking over!

Johannesburg – The name, “Skecthy Bongo”, has become synonymous with great music these days. Seriously, every time we hear it, we expect to hear the smooth sounds of Shekhinah or some other talented South African muso.

It was just last year that Durban based producer, Yuvir Pillay, AKA Sketchy Bongo, gave us the Sama nominated, Back to the Beach, (btw, thanks for that!) and he hasn’t wasted any time in producing even more hits, working with the likes of Danny K, Aewon Wolf, and Jimmy Nevis.

The hustle never stops for this super-producer. When The Juice caught up with Sketchy on Wednesday he was on his way to meet up with Aewon Wolf. “I’m working on his album right now” he told us. He is also working on the upcoming albums of Kyle Deutsch and Shekhinah.

As if that’s not enough, the producer also told us that he’s just wrapped up some new music with LCNVL, set to premiere on 5FM on Friday, 20 May.

He’s also working on a Coke Studio track with rapper, Riky Rick. “It’s really good,” he says about the upcoming single.

Sketchy says collabs is one of the reasons his music is so successful. “I don’t have a secret. The thing we mainly focus on is collaborations. Collaboration is the key.”

He also prides himself on making music that can appeal to a wide audience. “We try to make something that’s not genre specific.”

Well since he’s had the opportunity to work with so many great local acts, we just had to find out which international icon he would most like to collaborate with. “It would be Kanye West. Kanye West’s first album came out when I was in grade nine. When I heard that album it made me want to become a producer. I’m just talking about music, I really like his creativity.”

There’s no doubt in our minds that Sketchy Bongo will be producing more great music in future. Who knows, maybe there’s a Kanye collab on the horizon.
