WE often read stories about fathers who are absent from their children’s lives. However, in the case of hip hop musician, Siyabonga Metane, popularly known as Slikour, being a father is the best thing that has happened to him. He says being a father is one of the most joyous moments of his life.

PROUD FATHER

“My son is like me and the more I spend time with him, the more I realise that I wasn’t really cut out for the industry as a celebrity, but I am good in the background doing what I love and helping out silently,” says the proud father. Not going into details about his love life, Slikour shares that he is engaged. He says as a father, he knows that he has the responsibility to work hard to build an empire for his family. The star says without his parents' teachings and good upbringing, he would not be where he is. “I was raised by really great parents who did not have much, but had the will to make their children’s lives better. My mother hustled for a bursary for my brother and I went to a private school and my world opened up from then on,” says Slikour. “I started seeing what we didn’t have living in the township while at the same time never understanding why we were so underprivileged. This motivated me to make something of my life as it showed me that the world isn't just where I come from.”

HIS PASSION FOR MUSIC

Slikour broke onto the music scene as part of one of Mzansi's most loved and legendary hip hop groups, Skwatta Kamp. The star says being part of the group was an amazing experience. “I would like to believe that being part of Skwatta Kamp helped me learn about people on all levels of life. It helped me deal with situations and challenges, but most importantly, it showed me love doesn’t die no matter how far I am from the other members,” he says. “The only reason we made a success of Skwatta Kamp was because we were minding our business and just making music. That was the time when my love for music grew and it took me to a divine place.” He lets the cat out of the bag and tells Move! that Skwatta Kamp is in discussion to release a greatest hits album. Slikour is currently involved in driving music forward behind the scenes and introducing new talent through his website, Slikour on Life. “My future is confidential because God hasn’t signed it off, when I get a signature, everyone will see,” he says.
