Cape Town - Local jazz musician Philip Tabane has died at the age of 84.
The news of the music legend's death was confirmed by the South African Department of Arts and Culture.
Speaking to Channel24 Music, Gallo Music said that the reports are true, but could not elaborate further on the matter.
Tabane was awarded a South African Music Awards (SAMA) Lifetime Achievement award. In 1998, he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Venda .
The legendary artist was well-known for his hit songs Nkupi and Muvhango.
Fans of Tabane have taken to social media to celebrate his life, and express their condolences.
He is remembered by his fans as a "musical genius" and his music referred to as a "spiritual experience."
